Undoubtedly, we’ve all been there at least once; on the hottest, muggiest, most humid day of the Memphis summer your air conditioner stops working properly or breaks altogether. There’s no emergency like an AC emergency. But, before you panic and start calling Neighborhood Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, here are some steps to take in order to evaluate the extent of the damage and the repairs needed.
#1 Check the circuit breaker – The high energy demand of some air conditioners can be enough to trip your breaker. Even if other parts of your home have power, the heating and air conditioning systems in most homes are on their own breaker, so start there.
#2 Assess the situation – Is the air blowing? If you have more than one unit, are both not working or just one? By doing some preliminary self-assessment you can provide us information that might save you money and avoid the need for a service call.
#3 Generally, Avoid DIY Repairs – Your first instinct may be to pull out the tools and start tinkering around to find the problem. Unless you have HVAC experience, you’re likely to only make matters worse. Plus it can be dangerous. Generally speaking, leave the repairs to the professionals!
If all else fails, give us a call. We work evenings and weekends to help make you comfortable all year long.
